As a legislator/legislative candidate, I pledge to work hard for paid family and medical leave (paid leave) for my constituents and all Maine people.
I believe a comprehensive, quality paid leave program should be:
For all Maine workers regardless of business size, sector, full- or part-time status, of self employment.
Structured to protect all workers’ jobs. Workers must be able to take paid leave without fear of losing their job.
Gender- and family-inclusive. All Mainers, no matter their gender or their family structure, should be able to access paid parental, medical, and family care leave.
Socially insured and publicly operated. This means the program is operated transparently, benefits can transfer easily, and are most cost effective.
Reasonable in length and benefits. Wages and amount of time off must be adequate for workers to address their family and medical needs.
Paid by employers and employees.
Accessible. Information and support related to the program should be widely available.
