Making paid leave happen
for Maine families - together.
The power of our coalition comes from our members’ expertise & true understanding of the realities Maine people face every day.
The Maine Paid Leave Coalition has been part of paid family & medical leave efforts since 2019. We provided extensive support to the legislative commission that studied paid leave, which informed the legislation that created the program.
Our coalition’s power is in part thanks to breadth and depth of the members who understand how paid leave addresses many of the challenges Maine families face. We bring many of the skills and resources that our state government partners need to create a system that works for all Mainers. The Maine Women’s Lobby convenes our coalition.
We support paid family & medical leave in Maine by:
Raising awareness of the need and the issue among policy makers and the general public in Maine, and changing the cultural perception and understanding of the issue.
Building connections and relationships among partners, and sharing resources across partners to bring a diversity of resources and perspectives to this work.
Organizing to create a powerful constituency of concerned Mainers who will work to make this program a reality, strengthen it, and defend it.
Developing reasonable and comprehensive strategies to ensure effective implementation and evaluation of a system of PFML, and to keep the focus on a system that meets the needs of Mainers.
